Rejuvenate Your Home for the New Year!

2010 is winding down and 2011 is just around the corner.  As many of us are ready to start a new year, it is not only a time of reflection but it is also a time of change.  How can you make the new year absolutely amazing?  A way to make it fabulous is to focus on your own personal sanctuary, also known as your humble abode.  By working on your house, you will find that it will not only freshen your atmosphere, but your mood as well!

So what are some ways for you to concentrate on making your home clean, fresh and rejuvenated?
  • Get a few, small new pieces of furniture to freshen up the overall look and feel of your room.  For example, a new mirror for your hallway or a bold end table to liven up the living room.
  • Freshen up the bedroom.  Have you been wanting a new bed frame for quite some time and simply haven't gotten around to getting one?  Now is the time!  It's amazing what new pieces in the bedroom will do for you!
  • Use vibrant colors mixed with neutrals.  The fact of the matter is, neutral colors will always remain stylish.  Utilize browns, greys and blacks while adding some beautiful jewel tones to the mix.  This will really make your room pop!  A favorite that will be seen in 2011?  Mixing creams, greys and chartreuse (yellow/green).
  • Use different textures!  Mix smooth, rich woods with metal or perhaps suede with lush fur.  By doing so, you are creating an aesthetically pleasing room for all to enjoy.  Add texture with pillows, throws and other accessories.
There are so many different ways to make your home just as new as the new year!  For more information on furniture and ways to make your house fabulous, contact Boulevard Bazaar.

How to Decorate and Host the BEST Holiday Party!

The holidays are here and you've decided to host a holiday party at your home.  Stressed out?  No worries.  Here is a guide with ideas to get your house prepared!

1.  Decide: Do you have everything you need?
Be sure that you have everything that you need to prepare for the party.  Depending on how many guests you are planning on having, you should decide if you need any extra chairs, tables, etc.  Do you have the decorations and items you need for the party?  These are all factors to consider.

2.  Cleaning is not just for the Spring!
It may not be "Spring cleaning" time just yet.  However, it is the holiday time and you want your house to look as fabulous as possible before your guests arrive.  Try not to save it for the last minute, it is not worth adding to your stress!  If you clean a day or two prior, it will allow you to get it out of the way and let you concentrate on the upcoming festivities!

3.  Choose a theme.
What look and vibe are you trying to achieve?  Are you stumped on the theme?  Below are some great ideas for starting your holiday party!
  • Winter Wonderland:  Create a sophisticated setting of blues, whites, glitter and shine!  Hang snowflake decorations, put fuzzy snowballs in a decorative bowl, fill hurricanes with fake snow or ornaments and really set the mood.
  • Tacky Christmas Sweater Party:  Who can resist?  Have your guests pull out their tackiest Christmas sweaters and wear them to the party.  Decorate your home in a humorous and tasteless way!  Hang streamers everywhere and be sure to decorate with plenty of red and green!
  • Gift Wrapping Christmas Party:  This is a GREAT way for everyone to get together, enjoy hors d'oeuvres while productively wrapping gifts.  Have everyone bring a small dish, a role of wrapping paper and their gifts to wrap and you've got yourself a party!  Be sure to make a holiday playlist to get everyone in the gift wrapping spirit!
  • Cookie Decorating Party or Gingerbread House Decorating Party:  What could be more fun than getting together with close friends and family and decorating your own cookies or gingerbread houses?  This is wonderful for all ages and truly gets everyone in the holiday spirit.  Be sure your cookies are already prepared so that all you need to do is ice them and decorate!  If you choose to do a gingerbread house decorating party, be sure that all gingerbread houses are already assembled, or have each person bring their own!
4.  Decorate Accordingly.
Now that you have chosen your theme, decorate to make the experience one to remember.  Break out the holiday dinnerware, lights, mistletoe, wreath, holiday doormat and other decor for this time of year.  You want your home to be both welcoming and festive for the occasion.  By doing so, you will truly set the mood and create a joyous setting for all.

If you are hosting a holiday party, be sure to make your guests feel welcome and at home.  The holidays are for celebrating, giving and sharing.  Boulevard Bazaar is wishing you all the best this season!

Home for the Holidays

As today begins the first day of December, along with it comes the holiday madness.  Many people are gearing up for out of town guests, holiday dinners, and gift exchanging with family and friends.   It is truly the most wonderful time of the year.  Everyone is happy and joyous and no matter how tough times are, the holidays are where everyone comes together as one and celebrates life and family.

Perhaps you are getting ready to host a holiday dinner at your home and are preparing for guests to visit.  Whether it is family, friends or co-workers, getting your house ready for such an event can be both stressful and difficult, especially with all of the other activities that come with the holidays.  But there is no need to worry, as there are many different ways to make your home feel magical this December.

Below are some quick tips on how you can get your home ready for the holidays!

  • Decorate your dining room table.  There is nothing that is more inviting than a vibrant and warm dining room table with gorgeous table linens, napkins, candle holders and other decor.  All that is missing is the delicious home cooked holiday meal!  Try dressing up the dining room table as much as possible.  This is the time to use bold colors that are reminiscent of the holidays such as rich reds, sparkling metallics and deep greens.  Try a table runner or a plate charger to jazz up your dinnerware.
  •  Subtle Accents.  As much as everyone enjoys decorating for the holidays, at times, people tend to over-do it.  The best way to decorate without stressing yourself out is to use subtle accent pieces.  Why?  First and for most, it will make your life easier in the end and lastly, it will give your home a great deal of unique character as the common phrase is said to be true..."less is more".  Get a few cinnamon scented pine cones (found at craft stores) and fill a glass vase with them.  Perhaps you can even fill a centerpiece bowl with ornaments to make your home look festive.  The possibilities are infinite.
  • Decorate Near Your Front and Back Doors.  Add pointsettias to your steps to make your home look festive for the holidays.  Find a new holiday doormat that works for the season.  A wreath for your door with complete the total look and can be done quite inexpensively.
The best part of decorating is having the freedom to do how much or how little you desire and thinking outside of the box.  Not finding the table cloth you are looking for?  Why not purchase your own fabric and make your own table linen?  There is so much versatility when it comes to this time of year as you can truly create your own special look to ensure that everyone feels at home for the holidays.
